3 UGs killed in separate encounters

Imphal, November 20: At least three underground activists have been slain by security forces during separate encounters which took place in different parts of the State today.

A corporal of the PLA, armed wing of the proscribed RPF, was shot dead by Bishnupur Police Commandos during an encounter at Saiton/Litan Makhong Nganukon under Moirang Police Station at around 6.30 am today.

The slain PLA corporal has been identified as Khagembam Gopeshwar alias Sinthangamba (35) s/o Khagembam Brajamani of Kumbi Lai Santhong Mamang.

The Commandos have also reportedly recovered one 9 mm pistol loaded with 2 live rounds of ammunition and one Nokia mobile hand with an Aircel SIM card no.9856080866 containing incriminating records from the possession of the slain activist.

The body has been picked up by the police and kept it at the mortuary of RIMS for post-mortem.

According to a statement issued by SP of Bishnupur District, the encounter took place while Commandos were carrying out a search operation in the adjoining areas of Saiton/Nganukon village.

The underground activist was along the Inter-village Road of Saiton/Nganukon village.

AR using rocket launchers to flush out militants during the encounter at Baruni Hills, Tuesday


On the other hand, personnel of 4 Assam Rifles reportedly killed two suspected underground activists during an encounter which took place at Sawombung Wairi Lambi Awang Leikai Loubuk, 8 kms west of Lamlai Police Station at around 4 pm today.

Two 9 mm pistols and six rounds of live ammunition have also been reportedly recovered from the possession of the slain activists.

Lamlai Police picked up the bodies and deposited the same at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.

According to another report, exchange of heavy firing took place between a combined force of Imphal East District Commandos and 32 Assam Rifles and suspected underground activists during an operation at Baruni hill today morning.

However, there is no report of any casualty or arrest.

According to police report, on receiving information about the presence of some underground activists in Baruni hill, the combined force rushed in to launch the operation.

The combined force even used rocket launchers during the encounter.

However, there is no report of any casualty or arrest made in the incident.
