Imphal, April 04: Notwithstanding the assurance of Chief Minister O Ibobi that all possible security measures will be taken up for engineers, the talk between the State Government and Chief Engineers of five engineering Departments held today failed to arrive at any understanding.

The joint meeting was specifically arranged to end the ongoing cease work strike of the engineering Departments.

The cease work strike was launched following the murder of AE K Nabachandra by KCP (City Meitei).

The meeting was attended by Chief Engineers of Public Works Department, Minor Irrigation Department, IFCD, PHED and Power Department.

The Government was represented by the Chief Ministers and Ministers of the five engineering Departments.

During the meeting, the engineers highlighted the highly insecure situation they are currently in in the aftermath of the cold blooded murder of AE Nabachandra.

Pointing out the repeated incidents of intimidation, firing and placing bombs at the residences of engineers and abduction, the Chief Engineers sought immediate attention of the Government and to provide full security coverage to engineers.

So far, security escorts have been provided to engineers holding the ranks of Executive Engineers and above.

Even as the Chief Minister assured to provide maximum security cover to the engineers, the meeting failed to arrived at any understanding to end the ongoing cease work strike.

Speaking later to The Sangai Express, PWD Chief Engineer informed that the engineers have been urging to take up necessary measures so as to make lives of engineers secure.

He said that another round of talk will be held with the Government tomorrow.

Before meeting with Government representatives, the engineers would first hold a meeting amongst themselves and decide on a definite standpoint so that the same can be put up during the meeting with the Government later tomorrow, conveyed the Chief Engineer.
