Imphal, March 31: An Assistant Engineer (AE) of the PWD shot by two unidentified men near his residential gate at Utlou Kangjeibung Maning Leikai at about 7.30 tonight succumbed to his injuries at RIMS.

The deceased AE of Bishnupur PWD is identified Keisam Nabachandra (49) s/o Ibotombi.

Two youths who came on a Yamaha motorcycle accosted Nabachandra near his residential gate on the pretext of talking over something.

There, the two shot Nabachandra on the chest in front of his family members including women and children.

He succumbed to his injuries at RIMS at about 8.10 pm.

The corpse has been deposited at RIMS mortuary for post mortem.

Meanwhile, City Meitei of KCP (City Meitei) informed the press that Nabachandra was eliminated by the outfit.

City Meitei informed that AE Nabachandra was shot following a protracted disagreement between the outfit and the Works Department.

Some time back, a bomb was placed at the Singjamei residence of EE Jiten of the same Department as a warning.

However, no positive action necessary to facilitate an understanding with the outfit came from the engineers and officers of the Department, he rued while adding that this compelled the KCP (MC) to initiate the punitive action.

He further disclosed that such punitive actions will continue against PWD engineers and officers and individuals doing contract works in the Department.

Shoot out : A team of police commandos was fired at by some unidentified armed persons at Kakching Bazar at about 12.45 pm today.

Even as the commandos opened fire in the air and gave a hot chase, the assailants managed to escape through Kakching Bazar, sources informed.

Though there is no report of any casualty, normal activity in Kakching Bazar was disrupted for sometime, said sources.
