Imphal, June 06: The identity of the person slain last night by unidentified gunmen at Kongba Nongthombam Leikai under Porompat Police Station has been established as Lairellakpam Angonao alias Anthony (26) of Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai.

Claiming that the deceased is innocent, JAC has been constituted against the killing and staged sit-in-protest at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai today.

The protesters also blocked Imphal-Ukhrul road in the evening till the last rites of Angonao were completed.

According to family members, Angonao was picked up yesterday evening at around 5 pm by four/five unifentified gunmen who came in a steel coloured Scorpio when he was sitting at Nanao Activa Servicing Centre of Lamlong Keithel.

Refuting the charge that Angonao is an informer, family members said that the deceased is not related to any armed group or security forces.

They expressed suspicion that Angonao had become a victim of mistaken identity as his name is not 'Santosh' as written in a piece of paper found in his pocket, "Santosh was awarded capital punishment for being an informer, others associated with him should stop being informers".
