Imphal, May 06: The youth who was shot dead by a combined force of Imphal East Police Commandos and 32 Assam Rifles during an alleged encounter which took place at Phayeng Makha Leikai in Imphal West District at around 3.30 pm yesterday has been claimed as a former underground activist who was out on bail and staying at home.

Family members have claimed that he was picked up by the security personnel from Wangoi at around 10 am yesterday.

The slain youth has been identified as Ahongsangbam Boy alias Chaoba Meitei (26) s/o Ahongsangbam Ibohanbi of Chingamakha Ahongsangbam Leikai.

It is said that Boy was a member of UNLF and after being arrested by the security force he was out on bail and since then living at home.

He was a married man trying to eke out a living as a daily wage earner, the family members said.
