Projectile lands in RIMS special ward

Imphal, April 14: A projectile believed to have been shot through the roof of the wall was recovered from inside the room of the special ward of RIMS Hospital here.

The projectile was detected at around 1 pm yesterday while the staff was taking out medicines from a polythene bag kept on top of the locker placed near the bed of the patient.

Everyone present was taken by surprise on recovering the projectile.

It is said that on the night of April 12 at around 6.40 o'clock, a sound resembling a loud thud was heard coming from the roof above the room of the patient.

It may be recalled here that at around the same time, a bullet had also pierced through the GI sheet of the building of he room above bed no.13 of the Gynae Ward (ground floor) of the hospital.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Following recovery of the projectile, security personnel today morning climbed on the roof of the special ward and found out that the projectile had indeed pierced through the wall of the roof.

The projectiles recovered from the Gynae ward and the special ward were of similar type.

The projectiles are not of some big gun nor of point 38 pistol but of some smaller weapons.

It may also be recalled here that on the night of April 12 at around 6.40 o'clock, two violent incidents, the first related to killing of a suspected UG by Police Commandos inside the Kangjabi Leirak and firing near RIMS Hospital had been reported.

Family looted: Around 13 tola of gold and Rs 4,50,000 in cash have been reportedly looted by unidentified persons from the house of one Takhellambam Deepak of Wangkhei Angom Leikai under Porompat Police Station last night.
