UNLF claims that it awarded capital punishment to deserters

Imphal, March 12: The proscribed UNLF today claimed that it awarded capital punishment to Pvt L Rubi alias Tangjaba of Langjing Achouba and Pvt H Herojit alias Marupcha of Ngachoupokpi last night at Keinou Tongkha Makha Leikai for their 'crimes.' Detailing their misdeeds, the outfit in a statement today said that while they were on night duty at the 242 unit of the MPA on February 9 this year, they deserted the camp with the AK guns issued to them and the arms were sold to a villager at Wangli village.

The arms later went to the NSCN (IM), said the statement.

Before they fled they also enticed others to join them, but their overtures were rejected.

A certain amount of money has been recovered from the villager to which the two sold the arms, said UNLF and added that of the money recovered on February 15, a total of Rs 26 thousand composed of fake notes.

At present Ukhrul district is flooded with fake currency, said the outfit and urged the people to be on their guard.

Since the two were found guilty of not only deserting their camp but also selling away the arms which were bought with great difficulties, the two were awarded the capital punishment, said UNLF and added that committed this crime after volunteering to be MPA cadres and after undergoing the Basic Military Training as well as taking the oath.
