Imphal, July 17: The proscribed KYKL has clarified that Meinam Somen (32) of Bishnupur Ward No 6 Khuman and Haorakcham Somendro (32) of Bishnupur Ward No 8 Thiyam Leikai who were shot dead by Imphal West police commandos and security personnel on July 15 at about 6.30 on a bridge over the Nambul river between Naorem Chapou and Thounaojam were not in any way related to the outfit.

Hotly refuting the claim of the police that they were shot dead in an encounter, the outfit in a statement today said that farmers working the field saw the two brought to the bridge in a vehicle and the shot dead by the police commandos.

The outfit went on to say that the time has come for the people to raise a united voice against the killing of innocent people and added that the civil society organisations have a big role to play and to lead the people in raising their voice against the blatant human rights violation.

KYKL also urged the people to stop accepting ex-gratia whenever any civilian is killed.
