In a press statement issued today by USU General Secretary, L Sanajaoba said that the Union supports the decision of the Transporters and Drivers' Council not to ply vehicles on the NH-39 .

Unless the state government gives assurance and put into action that collection of all kinds of unauthorized taxes at NH-39 will be stopped and the commuters will be given full protection from the anti-social elements lurking in the highway.

For the time being NH-39 should not be used.

It will be wrong to portray NH-39 as the only viable life line of the state.

USU decried the present pace of development of NH-53 by state PWD in spite of the cooperation extended by people.

USU appealed to the business community to stop making excessive profit by taking advantage of the prevailing situation in the state.

Now the price of fuel in the black market has been reduced, prices of commodities and fares must also be reduced.

The protest is to be organized against the non availability of compensation for crops affected by the Loktak Project and the artificial scarcity of fertilizers and fuel, informed a release issued today by the Association's Secretary, H Ibobi.
