Imphal, May 13: Of the two suspected UG cadres shot dead by Imphal East commandos at Rockci Fast Food Restaurant at Ghari along Airport road last afternoon, one has turned out to be an auto-rickshaw driver.

The identity of the other cannot be established as yet.

According to family members, Md Jabir (19) s/o Moulavi Abdul Kadir of Khergao Awang Leikai was an auto-rickshaw driver.

He went out at about 3.30 pm yesterday to buy some motor parts as his auto-rickshaw had broken down.

Just about an hour later, it was learnt that Jabir had been shot dead, they said.

On the other hand, police sources maintained both the slain youths were suspected to be cadres of the KCP (MC) .

Meanwhile, in connection with the killing of Md Jabir, a public meeting was held at Khergao Junior High School ground during which a joint action committee was constituted.

Contending that Md Jabir was an innocent auto-rickshaw driver, the meeting resolved not to claim the corpse of Jabir until the commandos involved in the killing are punished accordingly, the bereaved family is provided Rs 5 lakhs and a suitable job to a member of the family.

At about 4.30 pm, JAC members marched towards the Chief Minister's office to submit a memorandum containing their demands.

But they were blocked by police at Palace Compound.

As the JAC members tried to force their way through the police barricade, police fired tear gas shells and dispersed the crowd with the help of women police.
