It appealed to all the communities to celebrate the Gaan Ngai festival in true spirit and to uphold peace and co-existence.

The UCM today released a statement giving the six slogans which have to be raised tomorrow from 7 to 8 pm.

The slogans are:

4) Eikhoigee Apunba Saktam - Ngakkadabani Ngakkadabani (Our territorial integrity should be protected) 5) Ema Leibakna Yaiphare (Victory for our motherland) 6) Long live Manipur.

PTI reports maximum security alert was sounded today as the apex United Committee Manipur (UCM) launched an 'awareness campaign' against any attempt to disintegrate the state in view of the 'greater Nagaland' demanded by the NSCN(IM) leadership.

Official sources said the decision to alert all security and police posts were taken at a high level meeting chaired by DGP (Manipur) S Bimolchardra Singh.

Security was also tight for tomorrow night's 'slogan shouting' by the UCM, an apex body of social organizations.

The UCM has already declared 'indefinite emergency' from midnight last night to thwart any move to divide Manipur.

UCM Information Secretary Joy Chingakham told PTI that the declaration of 'emergency' was a preventive measure.

The people, he said, would hold a candlelight vigil tomorrow from 7:00 pm and raise the slogans.

Meanwhile the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association Secretary Dr L Surjit today said the MMTA organized expeditions to go to the state's boundary on foot.

Threat to the territorial integrity was seen and information was given to the government but the government did not heed to the suggestions made he said.

MMTA welcomes the peace initiative but it will not remain silent if Manipur's territory has to be compromised it added.

All young, old, women will be given training at the MMTA base camps so that the territory will be protected he pointed out.

It would be an undemocratic step if the government decides to break up the state in the interest of a particular community he pointed out.

He appealed to all MMTA members and sympathizers to work for the territorial integrity of the state.
