Opposition confronts Government from day one Monsoon Session

Imphal, July 04: The Monsoon Session of the state Assembly, which will continue till July 29, commenced today.

On the first day, during the question hour, opposition legislators confronted the government with questions on many issues including the implementation of Hills Areas Village Authority Act, 1956, MLR Act, construction of Khurai-Lamlong bridge and Salanthong bridge, land allotment of old district hospital and filing up of vacant posts of SDC.

The criterion for the selection of beneficiaries for schedule caste, schemes taken up by Tribal Development Department and implementation of education guarantee schemes also came up for discussions during the question hour.

Later, the chief minister, Okram Ibobi presented the report of Business Advisory Committee, 2002 during the presentation of committee reports.

The secretary of state Assembly intimated the House of the Governor�s assent to the Manipur Appropriation Bill No 1 and 2.The House also agreed on the time allocation of the ongoing session till July 29 proposed by the business advisory committee.

The first calling attention motion of this session was moved by MPP legislator, O Joy on the matter of precautionary measures taken up by the IFCD to prevent flooding during the monsoon season.

In his reply, IFCD minister, N Mangi gave a lengthy account of the steps taken up by his department to counter the threats of flooding.
