Hiyanglam MLA Kunjo is no more

Maibam Kunjo, sitting MLA of Hiyanglam assembly constituency who was elected four times to the State Assembly, died of an illness at his official residence at Babupara here around 8.30 am today.
Elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Hiyanglam constituency in the 2012 general elections on Trinamool Congress party ticket, 73-year old M.Kunjo left behind 5 sons and 3 daughters, besides his wife.
Hearing the news of his death, dignitaries including Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th.Lokeshore, Cabinet Ministers and MLAs headed towards the official quarters of the deceased MLA to pay their last respect to the departed soul.
With a ceremonial gun salute by a contingent of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles, the gathering observed a two minutes silence to mourn the demise of the leader.
Later, the mortal remains of the departed leader were taken to his village for performing the customary rites due to a departed soul.
M.Kunjo was elected to Manipur Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1974.During his second tenure as elected MLA in 1995, Kunjo became the Minister of Rural Development, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry.
He was again elected in 2002 elections and became Commerce and Industries Minister.
Before his demise, M.Kunjo was the sitting MLA elected on Trinamool Congress party ticket in 2012 general election.
As narrated by one of his sons, Kunjo had been suffering from Diabetes for long which led to failure of his kidneys and lungs.
Giving his condolence message on the death of the MLA, Okram Ibobi said Kunjo's demise was a great loss to the people of Manipur.
He was a rare leader who had respects for people's sentiments, the Chief Minister said, while sharing the grief and suffering of the bereaved family.
Mourning the death of the legislator, Speaker Th.Lokeshore said his demise is a loss not only for the people of Hiyanglam, but also for the whole state.
Trinamool Congress MLA Dr..IIbohalbi, speaking during the condolence meeting, said the death of MLA Kunjo is a great loss to the party.
He also shared the grief of the bereaved family.
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee held a condolence meeting on the death of M.Kunjo with participation of all its MLAs and other leaders including Dr..IIbohalbi.
Vice president of the party M.Thoiba presided over the meeting which also observed 2 minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Mourning the death of the leader, BJP Manipur Pradesh also organized a condolence meeting chaired by its president Th.Chaoba at Tikendrajit Bhavan in New Delhi, stated a release by L.Basanta, General secretary of BJP Manipur.
Meanwhile, the State government has declared half holiday tomorrow for all offices and educational institutions under the Government of Manipur as a mark of respect to the departed MLA M.Kunjo, said a Raj Bhavan communiqu� today.
