Imphal, June 26 2020: As observed annually, the International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was observed today in different parts of the State.

CADA
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) also observed International Day of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking under the theme "Better knowledge for better cure" at its head office at Konung Mamang. The observance was held following COVID safety guidelines, said CADA in a statement.

On the occasion, Geetchandra Mangang, secretary-general CADA, claimed that many individuals who were arrested for smuggling drugs into the State escaped punishment because the powerful people sided with them.

They used every possible means like tempering/spoiling samples to prove innocence by colluding with powerful people, he said and added that pursuing such unprincipled acts by ignoring the efforts of all stakeholders to curb the menace of drugs is very unfortunate.

Though the State Government had announced a programme "Nisha Thadoklasi", no tangible actions have been taken to save the State from addiction and other drugs related issues, he said and demanded the State Government to formulate a drug-related policy at the earliest.

CADA president, Hijam Priyokumar; All Manipur Working Journalist Union president Bijoy Kakchingtabam and CADA former president, Arambam Rabindra graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour.
