Manipur finish second runners up at Muaythai National C'ship

Imphal, June 26 2022: Manipur Muaythai team represented by players of All Manipur Muaythai Lovers and Players Organisation, Changangei finished second runners up in the UMAI Muaythai National Championship hosted by Madhya Pradesh Muaythai Association at Tukoji Rao Indore Stadium, Debas district from Jun 16 to 22 .

The Manipur team featuring 27 players of different age groups bagged a total of 15 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals to secure the third place as Assam (64 player: 22 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze medals) finished on top in the medal tally and Tamil Nadu (82 players : 18 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze medals) settled for first runners up spot.

As per a press release of the All Manipur Muaythai Lovers and Players Organisation, the players who have won Manipur medals in the said National championship are as follows:

10-12 years (Sub-Junior) Boys : Malemnganba Khundrakpam (31 kg: silver), Mutum Dhanish Meitei (33 kg, two gold medals- one each in Fighting and Waykru) and N Leegardson Mangang (43 kg : gold);

12-14 years Boys : Kh Lakshinngamba (53 kg : Bronze), Khongbantabam Sanathoi Singh (57 kg : gold), K Jirankumar Meitei (59 kg: gold);

16 -17 years (Junior) boys : Khundrakpam Stelin (46 kg : silver), Khumukcham Bikash Singh (52 kg : bronze), Hanjabam Ashajit Sharma (61 kg : a silver medal each in Fighting and Waykru) and Khundrakpam Rodrick Singh (77 kg: Gold);

16-18 years (Junior) girls : Ngangom Rameshwori Devi (46 kg : silver), Ahongsangbam Alina (60 kg : Gold);

18-23 years (senior) Men : Laishram Kangjambam Singh (58 kg : bronze) and Thongam Neo Meitei (65 kg : bronze);

18-23 years (senior) women :Lanchenbi Khundrakpam (46 kg : 1 silver in Fighting and 1 gold in Waykru), B Tamphasana (51 kg : gold) and Jenista Ningombam (55 kg gold), and Elite men and women : Laishram Bidyachandra Singh (58 kg : gold), Ashem Tondonba Singh (61 kg, gold) and Wangkhem Riyona Chanu (52 kg : gold) .

Ashem Tondonba was also adjudged best fighter at the championship, the release said.

In the meantime, Golmei Marempu Kabui also earned UMAI Indro Pro Muaythai Title belt in the 51 kg category while Laishram Bidyachandra secured the title belt in the 61 kg category.

The team were led by Ayekpam Sankar Singh as coach, it added.
