State duo progresses in Elite men's boxing championship

Imphal, January 04 2023: Keisam Sanjit and Pukrambam Kingson registered wins on the fifth day of the 6th Elite Men's National Boxing Championship at Hissar, Haryana on Wednesday.

Keisam Sanjit produced his attacking prowess to dish out a 5-0 unanimous result against Vinay Kumar in their 48kg category bout.

Pukrambam Kingson too made short work of Gourav Gosavi in the 54kg category, showcasing his dominance against his Maharashtra opponent for a 5-0 victory.

Meanwhile, six-time Asian medallist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg) and 2019 World Championships bronze winner Manish Kaushik (63.5kg) will face each other in the semifinals, following their respective quarterfinal triumphs on Wednesday.

Shiva Thapa, representing Assam, outdid Ashutosh Kumar of Punjab by a 5-0 verdict while Kaushik (SSCB) defeated Manipur's Rohit Ningehougan Singh by similar 5-0 margin.
