Senapati, February 08 2025: The stature of the Lt Col Robert TA Football Tournament has grown exponentially which is evident from the participation of foreign players in this edition of the tournament that kicked off on February 4 in Senapati DHQs.

Having witnessed ten keenly contested matches so far, the local football fans were thrilled to witness the exceptional skills of international players identified as James, Mandy and Patrick from Ghana as they brought an international flair to this prestigious competition.

In view of their enthusiasm to participate in the tournament, the Assam Rifles which is the annual organisers of the memorial tournament, acknowledged their spirit of participation and presented them with tournament memorabilia apiece.

Over the years, the Robert Cup has seen a surge in popularity and participation which is held in the memory of Lieut Col Robert, the first Army officer from the Maram community.

The officer made supreme sacrifice when his patrol came under a massive avalanche in North Sikkim in May, 2020.After his death, his wife P Chingpai is the force behind the annual event to keep his legacy alive.
