H Basantakumar Memorial Tennis Tourney begins

The 2nd edition of Heisnam Basantakumar Memorial Invitation Tennis Tournament, 2022 organised by the Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) under the aegis of Manipur Tennis Association (MATA) began today at four different venues.
The venues include IDTA, THAU, CYLC-Chingamathak and SEYO-Akampat.
The five-day tournament offers a pool prize of Rs 2 lakh.
About 75 players from Assam, Nagaland, Rajasthan are competing in seven categories including men's open singles and doubles; 35+ singles and doubles; 45+ singles and doubles; 55+ doubles.
The opening day of the tournament saw H Bushan start his men's open singles campaign with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Bahadur Chetry.
In other singles matches, Padmeshwar beat Nonginsana 6-0, 6-2; S Bhicky beat Ashim Jyoti 6-1, 6-1; Kenny beat Shantakumar 6-1, 6-1; Leelenje beat Birchandra 6-4, 6-3; H Shanker beat Devson 6-0, 6-0; Luching beat Ratul 6-2, 6-3 and Vilaser Khate thumped Azad Khan 6-0, 6-0 .
In the 35+ singles matches staged today, Bona got a bye over Birla as Th Chingkhei beat Ch Chingkhei 6-2, 6-2; Santakumar breezed past Amarjeet 6-0, 6-0; Ribashkar overwhelmed Ratan 6-0, 6-1; Ch Pritam beat Kondum 6-0, 6-4; Premjit beat Shitaljit 6-2, 6-1; Aken beat Shantikumar 6-3, 6-1 and Suraj beat Jogen 6-0, 6-4 .
Meanwhile in the 35+ doubles matches, the pair of Sanatomba and Kondum sealed a hard fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Th Chingkhei and Jogen; Prakash and Premananda eased past Amol and Ratan 6-0, 6-1 and Korounganba and Domson outlasted Shitaljit and Birla 6-3, 6-1 .
In the 45+ singles matches staged today, Subhash outlasted Rakesh by 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) in a keenly contested match as Kangjamba downed Keshorjit 6-3, 6-1; Shantanu S overcame Arun 6-4, 6-1; Dilip saw out Aldrin 6-4, 6-4 and Manikanta eased to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jayanta.
The day also saw the pair of Subhash and Rakesh get a walkover win in the above 45 years doubles event as Manikanta and Kumarjit defeated Jayanta and Prakash.
