10th Annual Manipur Central Jail Sports meet concludes

The 10th Annual Manipur Central Jail Sports meet that began on December 10 concluded today with a formal closing function at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
Prison inmates of the Manipur Central Jail competed in as many as 6 sports disciplines in the 11-day sporting event.
Faumei Gonglin, IGP (Prisons), Manipur; SK Bhadrika, SP Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa; A Keshorjit, Deputy SP, Manipur Central Jail, Imphal; Arunkumar, Subedar, 5th IRB Bn attended the closing function as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Faumei Gonglin said that the sports meet was organised to encourage fitness and health consciousness among the inmates besides developing the sense of teamwork.
He also exuded confidence that the inmates, once their terms are over, will become responsible citizens and play a key role in nation building.
He also led other presidium members in distributing prizes to winning individuals and teams representing different sectors in various events.
The 4th Sector team emerged as volleyball champions beating 3rd Sector in the final as the 1st Sector team emerged as sepaktakraw champions beating 2nd Sector team.
The 4th Sector team also emerged the turf of war champions beating the 1st Sector team.
James Kuki of 6th Sector in the meantime claimed the men's singles carrom event as Manaoton of 2nd Sector finished runner up.
The pair of Suraj and Johnson of 2nd Sector in the meantime won the doubles title in the carrom competition beating James Kuki and Thangjalen of 6th Sector.
The chess title meanwhile went to Dhrubajit of 3rd Sector as he beat compatriot Ruimi in the final.
Badminton singles title went to Brajakishor of 2nd Sector who beat Y Ibomcha of 1st Sector in the final as Brajakishor and Jiten went on to win the doubles title beating Bijaraj and Bocha of 4th Sector.
A friendly football match between teams representing inmates and staff of Manipur Central Jail also marked the occasion.
