Huirongbam Malemnganba wins 2nd Kangba Intra Academy Chess Tourney

Imphal, August 10 2025: Huirongbam Malemnganba emerged the winner of the 2nd Kangba Intra Academy Chess Tournament organised by the Kangba Chess Academy at NYVO community hall, Ningomthong.

In the 2-day tournament that began yesterday, Huirongbam Malemnganba, Khumukcham Bryan and Oinam Eerikhomba Khuman all shared same 4 points after 5 rounds but Malemnganba who enjoyed better Buchholz (BH-16.5) score emerged on top while Bryan (16 BH) and Eerikhomba (15) finished second and third.

Lanchenba Ngairangbam (4pts with 14 BH), Yensembam Thoithoi (3 pts with 13.5 BH), Ayekpam Lamyanba (1.5 pts with 10.5 BH) and Chahaonu Ningombi (3 pts with 13 BH) were also declared best U-11 player, best U-9, best U-7 and best female player of the tournament, said Kangba Chess Academy in a press note.

The tournament conducted in the 5-round Swiss system saw a participation of 21 players including 7 female players, it said.

The meritorious players and other participants were also feted with trophies, certificates and medals, it added.
