State Polo Tournament MPSC-A, X Polo cruise into men's semis

Imphal, January 10 2018: MPSC-A edged out Chingkheihunba Polo Club 5-4 while X Polo Club drubbed K&MM Riding School 8-3 in the quarter final matches played today and cruised into the semi finals of the ongoing 34th Men's State Level Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung.

The first quarter final match between MPSC-A and Chingkheihunba Polo Club was evenly matched.

The first chukker ended goalless as both teams failed to open up.

Abungcha and P Jotin scored one each for MPSC-A in the second chukker while L Kokeshwar and Th Kaoba of the rival team also registered one goal each in their names to finish the second chukker 2-2 .

MPSC-A raced ahead in the third chukker and it were S Abungcha and S Bimol who added one goal each to make it 4-3 with another goal from Th Kaoba of the losing side.

L Kokeshwar of Chingkheihunba Polo Club struck the equaliser in the last chukker but S Bimol rose to the occasion and tapped in the winner for MPSC-A to hand his team the semi-final berth.

In the second quarter-final match of the day, X Polo Club rode on L Tolonkhomba and L Atangba to drub K&MM Riding School, Singjamei 8-3 .

P Ojit and L Atangba scored one goal each in the first chukker to give X Polo Club 2-1 lead.

S Doller scored a single goal for the Singjamei side in the first chukker.

S Dollar again struck a goal in the second chukker and equalised the score at 2-2 .

The third chukker saw L Tolonkhomba of X Polo Club pump in three goals and put his team ahead with a 5-2 lead.

L Atangba then take charge of the last chukker adding two goals which was followed by a single from M Doren extending the lead to 8-2 .

A Ranjan of the Singjamei side grabbed a consolation goal in the last chukker to finish the game 8-3 in favour of X Polo Club.

In the last pre-quarter final match of the men's tournament, Khurai Polo Club-A defeated CRYPHSA 5-2 to sail into the last 8 stage of the tournament.

L Thomas of Khurai Polo Club-A and Alex of CRYPHSA scored one goal each to level the score at 1-1 in the first chukker.

L Thomas and Th Roshan of the Khurai side then scored one goal each in the second chukker to extend the lead to 3-1 .

The second goal of CRYPHSA came from the stick of Pandit Meitei in the third chukker making the score read 2-3 .

O Rojer and K Jogendro took honours to pump one goal each in the last chukker and gave the Khurai side a 5-3 victory.

Tekcham Polo Club will take on CRPF Polo team in the third quarter final match tomorrow at 1 pm while MPSC-B will play Khurai Polo Club-A in the last quarter final match at 2 pm.
