Manipuri girls outshine others in NE Zone Climbing Competition

Imphal, October 08 2011:
Manipuri girls Senjam Devala and Pheiroijam Sushirani outshined girl climbers of other North Eastern states in the 13th North East Zone Sports Climbing Competition, 2011 which began today at the Kangla Rock and Sports Climbing Wall, Imphal.
Senjam Devala reached the top of the wall and secured the top position in the Women's Open Lead Semifinals while compatriot Pheiroijam Shushirani emerged second.
Kayleigh Petra Nongkynrih and Ngandarihun Sohshang of Meghalaya won the third and fourth positions while their compatriot Ibakordor M Sawian came fifth.
Nagaland girls Sheila Phom and Mapurepla Longkumer followed sixth and seventh positions.
All the seven climbers have entered the final round.
In Men's Open Lead semifinals, Lakitbok Lyngdoh of Meghalaya stood first position by reaching the top of the wall.
Ph Khelendra of Manipur emerged second while Pilaster Nongsiej of Meghalaya won the third position.
Ngangom Regan of Manipur and Ayieto Yhoshu of Ngaland stood fourth and fifth securing their berth into the final round.
Bakordor Umsong and Lurshai Swer of Meghalaya, Kekheneito Kere and Seyievito Yhokha of Nagaland, Nesterlay Nongrum of Meghalaya and Elangbam Shanker of Manipur were placed sixth to 11th positions but could not enter the final round.
Tourism Commissioner KK Chettry, Special Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports H Deleep, Editor ISTV Rupachandra Yumnam, Chairman North East Zone Sports Climbing Committee Dr L Surjit who is also the president of MMTA, Secretary Manipur Olympic Association Manglem and former Deputy Director YAS W Sushilkumar attended the inaugural function as presidium members.
Altogether 45 climbers from Manipur, Assam, Meghaklaya and Nagaland are participating in the climbing competition which will continue till October 10 .
It may be mentioned that the competition was organised for the selection of climbers for the 17th National Sports Climbing Competition which is to be held in New Delhi from November 3 to 5 .
A new bouldering wall of MMTA was also inaugurated today.
