RAU win 2-1 against AMOFA in 2nd Premier League 2025-26 opener

Imphal, April 27 2025: Rising Athletic Union (RAU), Lamlong Thongkhong stunned All Moirang Football Association (AMOFA), Moirang with two late goals as the 2nd Premier League 2025-26 kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

AMOFA led the first half 1-0 but RAU equalised at the stroke of the 90 minute before Moirangthem Somokanta scored three minutes into the stoppage time to open their Group A league campaign with a 2-1 win today.

AMOFA enjoyed a slight edge in the opening half dominating the possession and went ahead through Sougaijam Amitkumar after 32 minutes.

RAU also did not lose hope and made all efforts to close the gap but failed as AMOFA defence were alert enough in the opening half.

The second half saw AMOFA trying to add to their lead while RAU kept struggling to come to level terms.

The efforts on both ends did not materialise for long and when AMOFA looked to walk away with all three points, Laishram Akash made the most of a chance to draw level for RAU in the 90th minute.

The morale boosting goal helped RAU to work more in the 6-minute stoppage time and it was M Somokanta who broke the hearts of AMOFA fans three minutes into the stoppage time.

With little time left, AMOFA toiled hard to level but the RAU defence emerged on top to deny any alteration in the scoreline.

As many as 18 teams clubbed into two groups are participating in the top tier football tournament organised by the All Manipur Football Association.

United Chandel Football Club (UCFC), Chandel will play Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM), Khabam in the Group B opener tomorrow at the same venue.

The match starts at 2.30 pm .
