14th Manipur Polo International : Manipur thump USA 9-5 for third win on trot

Imphal, November 26 2022: Manipur rode on P Ojit to notch up a 9-5 win over the USA team for the third successive win in the 14th Manipur Polo International being underway at Mapal Kangjeibung.

It was a competitive start from both the ends and the first chukker ended in a 2-2 draw.

Jorge Vasquez opened the scoring for the USA in the 1.40th minute of the match before P Ojit pulled level at the stroke of the 2nd minute.

JP Vasquez scored another in the 3.19th minute to earn USA the lead but T Pradeepkumar put Manipur on level terms a few seconds later.

The second chukker saw Manipur surge ahead with four goals, one from Pradeepkumar, two from P Ojit and another from L Atangba and the third chukker saw P Ojit and JP Vasquez scoring a goal each to make the scoreline read 7-3 .

The final chukker witnessed L Rojit and L Atangba adding a goal each for the hosts and Will Boland and JP Vasquez scoring for the USA.

Earlier in the day, India-A pulled off a 6-2 win over Indian Navy for the first win in the tournament courtesy a treble from Syed Hurr Ali.

Ranshay Purohit and Syed Hurr Ali scored a goal each in the first two chukkers respectively to give India-A a 2-0 lead till halfway.

Neither team made the most of their chances in the third period and the final chukker saw Cdr AK Panchai scored both the goals for Indian Navy after Syed Hurr Ali scored two more goals to complete his treble and Ransahay Purohit and Swr D Santosh chipped in a goal each to hand India-A a 6-2 win.

The USA will play India-A tomorrow before the UK clash with Manipur.
