KIWT: Vengthah Ward No 3 lift football title

The month long 17th Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament-2021 organized by Kangpokpi Youth Union concluded in style yesterday at Brig M Thomas ground, Kangpokpi DHQs with Vengthah Ward No 3, the oldest ward in the town clinching the football title (men's).
Kangpokpi AC MLA, Nemcha Kipgen graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest while Palal Singsit, Inspector Income Tax Department and Angam Leivon, Vice Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee attended as guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Ex-ADC Sadar Hills Councillors including Lamkholen Kipgen; ex-executive members, BP Vikas Basnet and Lamminthang Kipgen; ex-members, Seilen Lhoujem and Milan Pradhan also attended the function as special invitees besides former ISL player Boithang Haokip, members of Kangpokpi Town Committee, office bearers of Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization and leaders of various civil society organisations.
Expressing her excitement to witness the final match of the biggest sporting event in the town, the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen said it was fortunate to witness people gradually start gathering for outdoor activities after pandemic forced all to stay indoors for nearly 9 months.
"As we begin embarking on education after the prolonged lockdown it is also equally important to embark on physical fitness activities like games and sports," she said while calling on all to give equal weight to both education and games and sports.
Appreciating the unity of the people of Kangpokpi, the MLA exhorted all to use the Inter Ward Tournament as a torch-bearer and an ambassador for peace, harmony, tranquillity and unity and also to inculcate the spirit of true sportsmanship especially among the sports lovers in the district.
MLA Nemcha Kipgen also exhorted the youths of Kangpokpi to eschew drugs and embark on sports and education activities for healthier Kangpokpi before inspecting the players and kicking off the breathtaking final match between Vengthah Ward No 3 and Ward No 13.Vengthah Ward No 3 lifted the champions trophy by defeating Ward no 13 by 3-2 goals after having its first title 25 years ago in the 3rd edition of the tournament held in 1996.Hahao (16'), Lulun (24'-OG) and Lunminlen (90'+2?) scored for Vengthah Ward No 3 while Lunkhogin (12') and Sasang (58'-P) scored for Ward No 13.The champions trophy and cash prize were donated by Paomin Kipgen in memory of (L) Seingam Kipgen.
Runners up Ward No 13 on the other hand received a trophy and cash prize sponsored by Henkam Khongsai in memory of (L) Baby Tinneichong Khongsai.
Prior to the football final match, Ward No 2 had a 2-0 win over Ward No 1 courtesy of Jangthang (4') and Len@Thay Doungel (27') to win veteran football title.
The winners were feted with a trophy and cash prize donated by Satgunhao Kipgen in memory of (L) Seikam Kipgen.
Under-15 football champions, Vengthah Ward No 3 were feted with a trophy and cash prize donated in memory of (L) Maj and Advocate PC Misao Hangmi.
Man of the football final match- Paolalngaisang of Ward No 13; best player - Seivanglen Mate of Ward No 4; top scorer-Hahao of Vengthah Ward No 3 (7 goals), best goal keeper - Thanggunngam Khongsai of Ward No 4; fastest goal scorer - Veteran striker Kaybie Chongloi of Vengthah Ward No 3 (3 minute goal); hattrick scorer - Ward No 1's veteran striker Len@ Kaptan Lhouvum were also feted at the occasion.
Winners of men's volleyball and women's volleyball competitions, Ward No 1 and 14 and runners up teams Ward No 3 (men) and Ward No 12 (women) were also feted with trophies and cash prizes.
Best player of men's volleyball-Haominlun of Ward No 1 and best player of women's volleyball competition Tingneilam Haokip of Ward No 14 were also encouraged with prizes.
