Mao Football League underway at new Asufii Football Academy ground

The much awaited Mao Football League for the session 2025-26 kicked off at newly built Asufii Football Academy (AFA) artificial turf ground in Punanamei, Mao this afternoon.
The inaugural program was graced by Mao Council President N Athikho Joseph as chief guest; SDOAM president Koveo Joram as guest of honour and Mao AC MLA Losii Dikho as the chief host.
The local MLA is also the Advisor of Mao Football Association (MFA) and Chairman of AFA, ACI & ACS .
Other dignitaries included promoters, sponsors, CSO leaders, veterans, village and Church leaders.
Participated by over 10 teams drawn from Mao villages, the tournament will witness 60 guest players coming from different States of North East India.
All the matches will be played at the AFA facility which is surrounded by scenic mountain views of Manipur-Nagaland border.
With the new artificial turf at AFA, Senapati District now has its second standard size football facility.
AFA, now a well established Football Academy and Club, is a home to residential coaching institutions for different categories.
On the occasion, the MFA also recognized the contributions of veterans and former Mao football stars.
The Mao Football League witnessed thrilling opening matches yesterday.
The inaugural exhibition match was played between Veterans and Promoters which ended in a 3-3 draw.
Retired Dr O Lorho, who played CC Meet in 1974, led the veteran team and scored the 1st goal while his younger brother O Athikho IRS (retd) played for Promoters and scored the 3rd goal.
