Nemcha Kipgen graces closing day of 42nd TAYA Annual Sports Meet

Kangpokpi, January 31 2020: The final match, of the Tujang Area Youth Association 42nd Annual Sports Meet, between Chaljang Group and Ebenezer Football Club was played in presence of the Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen at Kholjang playground today.

Chaljang Group lifted the trophy after 5-4 win over Ebenezer FC in penalty shootouts following a 1-1 tie at the end of normal time.

Ebenezer FC found the opener in the 25th minute before Lalminlen of Chaljang Group found the equalizer in the 41st minute.

In the penalty shootouts, Chaljang Group managed to convert four goals while Ebenezer FC could score only 3 goals.

Chaljang Group lifted the Champion trophy with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.The runner up Ebenezer FC won cash prize of Rs 5,000 .

Women's Volleyball Champion Bolsang Youth Club (A) Team received cash prize of Rs 3,000 with a trophy and Under-13 football champion H Vengnom Kids Club received cash prize of Rs 2,000 with a trophy.

Gracing the closing ceremony of the annual sports meet, Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen exhorted that the villagers, especially youth should take keen interest in games and sports and lead healthy lives.

She said people should avoid poppy cultivation and save the future of the State.

"Tujang is a blessed land and the people dwelling here must not pollute the land with poppy cultivation," she said adding that they should rather promote games and sports for which Manipur is known to outside world.

Manipur is known as the powerhouse of sports, she said stating that youth and children should take keen interest in sports.

Tujang population should adopt and promote healthier occupation which may help improve the State's economy, she added emphasising that villagers can adopt animal husbandry including piggery to earn sustainable income and improve their living standard.

Tujang area is comprised of more than 30 villages and they have been organising the sports meet in the month of January every year under the aegis of Tujang Area Youth Association with an aim to promote football and other games and sports among the youths.

Cultural dance from various cultural troupes and a Lamkol dance marked the occasion.

Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Lhingneikim Kipgen, ZEO Kangpokpi and Tingnu Kipgen, AI, SHADC-Kpi attended the event as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
