Imphal, February 24 2014 :
Riding on a brilliant all round show with the bat and ball from Bhogendro, NAPSA downed a fighting DSU by 6 wickets in the ongoing 2nd T-20 Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament today.
DSU won the toss and opted to bat first and managed to compile a total of 100 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 19.1 overs.
The frontline batsmen of DSU did put up a semblance of a fight with Brogen leading the way with 27 runs off only 22 balls, followed by Mani with 13 runs off 12 balls, but it was the incisive bowling from the NAPSA players which decided the outcome of the match in the end.
Maintaining a tight line and length, Ratan Kumar, Bhogendro and Roni scalped two wickets each, to have the batsmen of DSU reeling.
Though Brogen dug in his heels and scored a breezy 27 runs off only 22 balls, wickets kept falling at the other side of the wicket.
Other than Mani with 13 runs off 12 balls, Nobo made a painstaking 10 off 17 balls and Sunil 9 runs off 10 balls to take DSU's tally to 100 runs all out in 19.1 overs.
Ranjit and Gautam of NAPSA chipped in with one wicket each to bowl out the batsmen of DSU and restrict them to 100 .
Set a modest target of 101, the batsmen of NAPSA started well riding on a whirlwind score of 36 runs off only 24 balls from Gautam followed by Bhogendro with a breezy 34 runs off only 29 balls who carried his bat through the match.
Jotin of DSU led the way scalping two wickets with Hemanth and Krishnakumar chipping in with one wicket each.
However the efforts of DSU bowlers came to nought as the batsmen of NAPSA punished all the loose balls despatching them to the boundary and picking up the quick singles and twos with some well placed shots.
With Gautam and Bhogendro digging in their heels and reading the ball well, they managed to keep the score board ticking at a fast pace.
The strategy to go in for the big shots also paid off as the ease with which the balls were despatched to the boundary frustrated the bowlers of DSU.
Pradip Kishore and Shanta also came up with knocks of 7 runs off 6 balls and 6 runs off 10 balls to help NAPSA notch up a total of 103 for the loss of 4 wickets in 12.5 overs.
For his score of 34 runs off 29 balls not out and two wickets, Bhogendro of NAPSA was adjudged the man of the match.
Poor fielding only added to the woes of DSU as they conceded boundaries which otherwise could have been intercepted.
Tomorrow, REYS will take on Model Club in the tournament being held at Langthabal public ground.
