9th Loktak Trophy SSU beat AIM; lift title

SSU, Singjamei registered a comfortable 3-1 victory over AIM, Khabam to clinch the title of the 9th Loktak Trophy, a State Level Invitation Football Tournament, under the sponsorship of NHPC and organised by the All Moirang Football Association (AMOFA), today at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School ground.
The closing function was attended by Loktak Power Station Chief Medical Officer Dr KK Singh, Bishnupur 7-Ngangkhalawai Zilla Parishad member M Birachandra Singh, Social Worker Th Shanti Singh and Loktak Power Station Human Resource Department manager RK Shitaljit Singh as presidium members.
Today's final match began with AIM taking an early lead after Naoba opened the account in the 2nd minute.
However, in-form SSU bounced back in the 15th minute after Khaminthang found the equaliser before he slammed in another goal in the 67th minute.
Shidur Rahman also netted in a goal for SSU in the 38th minute.
Champions SSU were awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while runners up AIM walked home with a cash award of Rs 30,000.The fair team award went to hosts AMOFA, Moirang.
AIM's S Sanaton was the highest goal scorer while AMOFA's Dinesh and SSU's Roshan were named the best goalkeeper and best player of the tournament respectively.
