Imphal, October 14 2017: Ganggam Soccer Club (GSC) wrapped up their showing at the Khaikhanlian Memorial District 1st Division league 2017 with a heart-breaking 6-5 'sudden-death' penalty loss to Bungmual Youth Club (BYC) at Peace Ground, Tuibong today .

The grand finale of the tournament saw both rivals engaged in stiff tussle for possession with their scintillating performances.

In the exciting and evenly contested match, the two teams however mostly failed to capitalise on several chances and were tied 1-1 at the end of the regulation time.

The match eventually went to penalties and after being even again, it went down to sudden death, with BYC prevailing 6-5 .

Wary of each others, the two sides made a cagey start relying on their attacking skills and deft defence.

Even as the two sides made some fast runs down from either sides of the flanks, none could succeed in breaking the deadlock in the first half .

The second session saw both sides bouncing back with renewed vigour to find the much needed winner.

The complexion of the match changed and the pace was accelerated after BYC drew the first blood in the 52nd minute.

In-form BYC striker Dalthiansiam who was lurking in their rivals’ goal area, rose to the occasion and let go a well placed shot that beat the custodian of GSC hands down .

Undaunted after a goal down, GSC upped their ante and swarmed their rivals’ goal area with their relentless attempts to find gaps in BYC’s defence line.

After making consistent onslaughts, GSC’s unrelenting efforts paid dividends when their star striker K Pautinmang sprang a surprise capitalising on a defensive lapse to draw level in the 80th minute .

A flurry of raids and well executed counters from both ends however did not change the script and the regulation time ended in a 1-1 stalemate .

Penalty came into play to decide the winners.

The score line became even again as just four players each (out of five) from both sides could find their targets in the penalty shootouts.

The match eventually went down to sudden death.

While the BYC’s 6th player found no difficulty in converting the kick, the GSC’s sixth man’s kick went wide of the mark .

Both the finalists however are assured promotion to the super division league next year.
