Imphal, February 19 2025: Secretary of Hockey Manipur, Th Manipur has categorically stated that Hockey Manipur is all set to resume its activities as the controversy over who should be the controlling body of Hockey in the State came to an end.

He made the statement during a press conference convened today at Hockey Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in the presence of other functionaries of Hockey Manipur.

The long standing controversy between Hockey Manipur and Manipur Hockey has literally ended with the Registrar of Societies issuing a memorandum on January 30 last to cancel the registration of Manipur Hockey, he said.

Recalling the early beginning of hockey activities with the formation of Manipur Hockey Association and Manipur Women Hockey Association from 1976-77, Th Manihar said that Hockey Manipur came into being by merging the two old bodies under the guideline of Indian Olympic Association issued in 2009 to constitute one body for one discipline.

A controversy however erupted when another body titled " Manipur Hockey" emerged challenging the norm, he said.

The issue of who should be the controlling body between Hockey Manipur and Manipur Hockey was raised to Court since 2010 and reached upto Supreme Court of India before it was finally referred to a Double Bench of the Guwahati High Court, he said.

After a series of hearings, the Double Bench of the Guwahati High Court had favoured Hockey Manipur to be State's hockey controlling body and directed the Registrar of Societies to make necessary amendments.

In a further development, the Registrar of Societies had recently issued a memorandum to cancel the registration of Manipur Hockey and all its activities.

As such, the controversy can now be considered ended and Hockey Manipur is now the sole controlling body of Hockey in the State, he said.

He also drew the attention of the Registrar of Societies to strictly monitor registration work and avoid similar controversies in the future.

With the issue has been finally solved, Hockey Manipur will resume its activities for the betterment and development of Hockey in the State, he said while also calling upon all sports enthusiasts to support them and contribute in making Manipur a powerhouse of Hockey yet again.
