Imphal, February 03 2022: Chumbang and Ziontlang have geared up to face each other in the final of the 57th Chothe Athourul Ngei Abom (CANA) (Chothe Students' Union) Conference cum Sports Meet football tournament.

Chumbang sailed to the final after beating Purum Khullen in the 1st semi final match played at Ziontlang while Ziontlang beat New Wangparal in the 2nd semi final match played at the same venue today.

In the first semi-final match played between Purul Khullen and Chumbang, two goals each from Chumbang's Daimus, Ahong and Ahrapa all in the first half gave Chumbang a 6-0 lead over Purul Khullen.

The only respite from the onslaught came in the form of a goal by Doney scoring the only goal for Purul Khullen in the 80th minute of the game.

Doney's goal came a little too late to save the day as Chumbang maintained the lead till the completion of the full time.

In the second semi-final played between New Wangparal and Ziontlang, an early goal from Khamson of New Wangparal in the 12th minute of the game gave New Wangparal the upper hand.

Fighting back to restore the status quo, Ziontlang players' relentless attack was rewarded with a goal from Henry in the 80th minute of the game.

With Henry's goal, the game was back on track.

With both the teams unable to break each other's defense by the end of full time, the team prepared for a penalty showdown.

Ziontlang field Salemthang, Kanthanglen, Darthangshu, Yaisu and Henry who all, except Yaishu, outwitted the New Wangparal Goalkeeper while New Wangparal's Sonam and Kamson converted their kicks but Rengrier and Kanhoi were denied their goals by Ziontlang GK.

The crucial save from Ziontlang Goalkeeper ended the New Wangaral's journey in the tournament.

The match ended in a 5-3 win for Ziontlang.
