One-week sport climbing course concludes at Minuthong

Imphal, July 31 2017:
The 47th Sport Climbing Course jointly organised by the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) and Manipur Sport Climbing Association (MASC A) from July 25 to 31 concluded today at the Kangla Rock Wall, Minuthong, Imphal.
The course participated by promising climbers including seven from Assam was aimed at grooming young sportspersons for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in which sport climbing will be included for the first time.
The closing ceremony was graced by the advisors of MASC A including Yambem Laba, Oinam Chaoba and N Ibungochoubi as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
While addressing the participants of the course, Yambem Laba emphasised on the importance of scientific training with the latest equipment.
He highlighted the achievements of the climbers who won medals at national and international competitions.
He also stated that the MMTA and MASCA will request the state government to construct a state-of-the-art climbing wall in the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and other districts to encourage this discipline.
In his presidential speech N Ibungochoubi, president, MMTA, thanked and praised the effort of the coaches and instructors of the association for taking keen interest in hunting new talents and grooming them for the 2020 Games.
