State duo becomes national badminton umpires

In a remarkable achievement for the state of Manipur, two sportspersons have successfully passed the Umpires Grade-II Final Examination conducted by the Badminton Association of India.
Worleichan A Shimray, a Tangkhul from Hunphun village in Ukhrul district, and Kuurwar Roel, a Moyon from Kapaam (Komlathabi) village in Chandel district, are now recognised as national badminton umpires.
The examination took place in Chennai from October 18 to 25.Both Shimray and Roel are the first tribal representatives from the state to achieve this honour at the national level.
Worleichan's accomplishment is particularly noteworthy, as she has become the first Tangkhul Naga woman to attain the status of a national umpire in badminton.
