Imphal, January 05 2025:
Youth & Sports affair (YAS) director Takhelambam Phulen Meitei has announced that the department has completed the process to reimburse state players of bodies affiliated to recognised sports federations of India.
He was speaking at a felicitation programme jointly organised by the Central Wushu Institute (CWI), Thoubal District Wushu Association, Imphal East District Wushu Association and Bishnupur District Wushu Association at WAL United Youth Club community hall, Wangkhei Angom Leikai on Sunday.
The programme held to felicitate medal winners and players who participated in the 11th Asia Junior Wushu Championship 2023 held at Macau, China; 9th World Junior Wushu Championship 2024 (Brunei); 33rd Senior National Wushu Championship 2024 (Uttarakhand); 24th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship 2024 (Punjab) and 1st South Asian School Combat Games 2024 (Bangladesh), was attended by Manipur Legislative assembly speaker Thokchom Satyabrata as chief guest and CWI founder and Wushu Association of Manipur founder secretary M Biramani as president, while WAL United Youth Club president RK Gokulchandra and YAS director T Phulen were guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, the YAS director highlighted that the department has a policy to reimburse players representing the state in national level tournaments.
However, the emergence of multiple federations and associations has complicated the release of funds, thereby impacting numerous players.
To address this issue, the department has decided to amend its reimbursement guidelines and implement a direct benefit transfer system, enabling funds to be deposited directly into the players' accounts rather than routed through their respective sports federations or associations.
Phulen further announced that it will start process of direct recruitment for wushu players meeting the required qualifications, provided they win medals in Asian Games or other international tournaments.
Speaker MLA Th Satyabrata urged all stakeholders to not only celebrate the achievements of the players but also extend their support in producing worldclass sportsper-sons.
As part of the function, gifts were presented to medal winning and participating players along with wushu coaches of various districts.
