RAU stage dramatic late comeback in 2nd Premier League opener

Imphal, April 27 2025: RAU produced a stunning late surge to clinch a 2-1 victory over AMFA as the 2nd Premier League 2025-26 got underway at the Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak, on Sunday.

The match began as a cagey affair, with both sides cautiously probing for openings.

AMFA gradually grew into the game, and their persistence paid off in the 32nd minute when Shougaijam Amitkumar Singh latched onto a clever through-ball before coolly slotting past the RAU goalkeeper.

The strike ensured AMFA carried a narrow 1-0 lead into half-time.

RAU emerged with renewed intent after the break, dominating possession but struggling to break down a resolute AMFA defence.

The match seemed destined to slip away from them until Akash Laishram struck in the 90th minute to pull RAU level.

Just as the game seemed destined for a 1-1 draw, the unthinkable happened as Moirangthem Somokanta pounced on a loose ball to rifle home the winner in the third minute of stoppage time, sealing a thrilling comeback for RAU in what proved to be a captivating opening fixture.
