Taekwondo competition kicks off

Taekwondo Poomsae Competition-2022, which is jointly being organised by Physical Education and Sports Science department of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) and All Manipur Taekwondo Association under the aegis of Korean Cultural Centre India and King Sejong Institute Imphal, began from Saturday at DMU Gymnasium, here.
DMU vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon, director of sports Dr RK Chandrakumar, King Sejong Institute Imphal operation personnel Dr Minjae Park, and All Manipur Taekwondo Association vice-president Ph Bijenkumar attended the inaugural session of the competition as members of the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, professor N Rajmuhon expressed hope that the competition will benefit the players in refining their talents and reaching newer height in their career as players.
He encouraged the players to put their focus on improving their skills and bring laurels at national and international platforms.
Altogether 92 players are competing in cadet and sub-junior categories.
On the first day, Anganba Elangbam and L Rohit won gold and silver medals respectively in cadet boys' category while Taorem Brainyson and Maximus Th got bronze medals.
In cadet girls' category, Kongbrailatpam Sonia and Laishom Aleevia won gold and silver medals respectively while Khwairakpam Quana and Anamika Chhetry won bronze medals.
In sub-junior boys' category, Himal Tamang and Thaodem Khagemba won gold and silver medals respectively while Angom Thoihenba and Usham Arlex won bronze medals.
On the other hand, Aishwariya Rai and Precilia Chabungbam won gold and silver medals respectively while I Sarah and O Merina won bronze medals in sub-junior girls' category.
