Thoubal set to host first-ever District Olympic Games 2025-26

Thoubal, August 03 2025: The Thoubal District Olympic Association (DOA), under the guidance and advice of the Manipur Olympic Association, has announced the launch of the First District Olympic Games 2025-26.The event will be held across multiple venues in Thoubal district from September 24 to 28, 2025.Speaking at a press briefing held at the DOA Thoubal office, Kshetrileikai, secretary M Madhusudon stated that the games aim to unite and showcase talent from various local sports associations across the district.

These associations have come together under the DOA's banner to organise what promises to be a mega sporting event.

The District Olympic Games will feature 16 disciplines, making it the first of its kind in Manipur to host such a comprehensive district-level Olympic-style competition.

To ensure smooth execution and wide participation, an Organising Committee will be formed, with Thoubal deputy commissioner Hanna Kahmei and senior superintendent of police Shivananda Surve playing key roles in the committee.

Preparations are already underway, with support pledged by educational institutions, government departments, NGOs, business communities, and sports enthusiasts.

The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) is also backing the event to ensure its success.

An estimated 1,800 athletes from across the district are expected to participate in the competitions.

Committees will be formed under the aegis of the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) to ensure the efficient management of each discipline.

The DOA expressed op timism that the 1st District Olympic Games will energise the sports movement in the region and nurture young talent.

The organisers called for cooperation and encouragement from all sections of society to make the event a grand success.
