Malemnganba wins 2nd Kangba Intra Academy Chess Tournament

Imphal, August 10 2025: Malemnganba Huirongbam emerged champion at the 2nd Kangba Intra-Academy Chess Tournament, which wrapped up on Sunday at NYVO Community Hall.

The two-day event saw 21 players compete in five rounds under Swiss System rules.

Malemnganba Huirongbam claimed 1st position with an impressive score of 4 points, supported by a Buchholz (BH) score of 16.5 and a Buchholz Median (BHm) of 10.5 .

His consistency secured him the top honour, earning him a trophy and certificate.

Bryan Khumukcham put up a strong challenge as runner-up, finishing with identical 4 points but narrowly missing the top spot with 16 Buchholz points and 9 Buchholz Median.

Oinam Eerikhomba Khuman took third place with 4 points and 15 Buchholz points, completing an intensely competitive podium where all top three players finished level on points.

In the age-group competitions, Lanchenba Ngairangbam emerged as the top U11 player.

The U9 category was won by Yensembam Thoithol, with Lamyanba Ayekbam taking honours in the U7 category.

Chahaonu Ningombi received recognition as the tournament's Best Female Player.
