Wangoi, Thoubal to square off in football final

Thoubal, Imphal East, and Imphal West players delivered standout performances in the badminton competition at the State Level School Sports Meet 2024-25 on Sunday.

In the senior boys' doubles event, Thoubal's Ksh Rakesh and K Kenish clinched the title, overcoming Wangoi's L Boynao and Tejbarta Ch in the final.

Meanwhile, the senior girls' doubles crown went to Imphal West's L Poireingbi and A Devka, who defeated Thoubal's H Ichanmacha and Y Jessy Devi in their summit clash.

In the junior category, Imphal East emerged as a dominant force.

The boys' doubles title was secured by Th Yangba Meitei and E Bheigyachandra, who triumphed over Bishnupur's O Arbin and W German.

Similarly, the junior girls' doubles crown went to Imphal East's Bidyalaxmi P and I Misty Devi, following their victory over Imphal West's M Lanchenbi and Ch Satya.

On the football field, Wangoi and Thoubal set up a clash in the boys' final after their semifinal victories.

Wangoi edged out Chandel in a tense penalty shootout, prevailing 8-7 after the match ended 1-1 in regular time.

Successful penalty takers for Wangoi included L Roshan, Girish Oinam, L Hemba, Th Saikhomba, Abinash Th, Y Bikash, Ch Korou, and P Mangal.

In the second semifinal, Thoubal cruised to a dominant 7-1 victory over Bishnupur.

Sadique Alam Shah led the charge with a hat-trick, while Moirangthem Bean and Y Surjakanta each added two goals.

Bishnupur's sole goal came from Tongbram Marjesh, offering a measure of consolation in a one-sided contest.
