MU clinch gold, bronze medals at Inter University Fencing C'ship

Imphal, November 08 2024: Manipur University secured a gold and a bronze medal on the third day of the AIU Inter University Fencing Championship 2024 at Jamu & Kashmir.

Waikhom Sonia Devi (Kakching Khunou College) captured Manipur University's first gold medal in the women's individual foil event, delivering a dominant 16-6 win over Naorem Mina Devi (Guru Kashi University), who had previously represented Manipur University, in the final.

Earlier in the semifinal, Sonia outdid Alice, another state native from Guru Nanak Dev University, by a 15-10 margin.

The bronze medal was claimed by the state women's foil team of Waikhom Sonia Devi (Kakching Khunou College), Khangembam Anjali Devi (Biramangol College), Kharibam Debita Devi (Manipur College) and Huiningshumbam Bala Chanu (Standard College).

In the semifinal, the team suffered a 9-15 loss to Guru Kashi University (Punjab) to settle for the bronze.
