MLA L Dikho opens 20th Hill Districts Badminton Championship

The 20th Hill Districts Badminton Championship 2022 was graced by L Dikho, MLA 48-Mao AC, as chief guest and Brig PS Arora, commander 22 Sector Assam Rifles, as special guest in the presence of IK Muivah, IGP (admin), and CSO leaders.
The tournament hosted by the Senapati District Bad minton Association (SDBA) got underway at Multi-Purpose Indoor Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati.
DC Senapati Mahesh Chaudhari in his welcome address stated that Senapati district has been well known in the held of badminton in the hills districts of Manipur for so many years.
The DC while welcoming all the participants from other the hill districts wished them best wishes.
LM Khaute, DGP (retd), MLA and president of Hill Districts Badminton Association, Manipur (HDBAM), in his keynote stated that ever since the HDBAM was formed in the year 2002, the association has marched forward and evolved itself as one of the most important and powerful sports bodies in Manipur.
Since its inception, the association has been holding the annual championship in hill districts on a rotation basis.
The previous edition of the championship was held in Chandel district, he said.
The HDBAM president also informed that the hill badminton body has achieved tremendous success over the years by producing three very prominent international badminton players, namely Andrew Lotzem, Kyoveio Vemai and Kalo Truman, who had brought laurels to the state and the hjll districts.
At the same time, LM Khaute was very hopeful that the trio would bring more laurels to the state and the country.
Khaute, on behalf of tlie association, also condoled the untimely demise of Louno Andrew, who was the former president of SDBA.
MLA L Dikho said that a small state like Manipur has produced many well-known sportspersons and sports have given employment to many youths.
He then stressed the need to give focus on sports while urging the youths to take up sports to live an extraordinary life.
More than 400 players are competing across different categories in the tournament which will conclude on October 27.Players from hill districts of Ukhrul, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Noney, Senapati, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Kamjong and Tengnoupal are taking part in the championship.
