MU Inter College Handball Tournaments underway

Imphal, October 25 2024: The Capt Sanoujam Ingo (retd) Championship Trophy for Manipur University Inter College Men's Handball Tournament 2024-25 and the Sanoujam (O) Ayekpam Nalini Devi Memorial Championship Trophy for Manipur University Inter College Women's Handball Tournament 2024-25 hosted by Shree Shree Gourgobind Girls' College, Khurai kicked off today at YLK Ground, Chingarel Tejpur.

Four men's teams and four women's teams are competing in these tournaments organised under the supervision of the Manipur University Sports Committee, Canchipur.

Top two teams after round robin league in both the competitions will qualify for the title clashes.

The opening day saw Biramangol College, Sawombung and Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal registering two successive wins in men's competition.

The result also ensured both teams final berths.

Biramangol College defeated Naorem Birahari College 15-7 in the opening match to open their account before defeating Manipur University 26-10 in the second match.

L Beckham (7), N Shitaljit (3) and L Hemba (2) contributed 12 goals in Biramangol College's massive first game victory as Y Chinglensan, L Gautam and K Rajeswor added a goal apiece.

I Kenedy (3), Sujitkumar (2), H Manison (1) and M Jaswant (1) were the scorers for Naorem Birahari College.

N Shitaljit 9, Beckham 7, L Hemba 4, Y Chinglensana 3 , L Gautam 2 and N Keshorjit 1 were on target in Biramangol College's 26-10 win against Manipur University.

Th Budha 5, Ningthem 2, Th Shama 2, Ninthem 1 scored for Manipur University.

Meanwhile, Pravabati College got the better of Naorem Birahari College 18-6 for the first win courtesy of goals coming from A Premson 5, Tondonba 5, A Manichandra 3, Yaipahaba 2, Roshikanta 2 and Naresh 1 .

H Manison 5 and Sujit Kuinal 1 were on target for Naorem Birahari College.

Pravabati College then overwhelmed Manipur University 28-6 for their second win later in the day thanks to 7 goals apiece from Yaiphaba and A Premson.

A Tondonba 6, Rohikanta 4, Manichandra 3 and Naresh 1 also contributed 14 goals in Pravabati College win as Satish 3, Morish 2 and Ningthem 1 .

In the women's opener, Biramangol College beat TS Paul Manipur Women's College 7-3 riding on goals from Kh Meloda 5 and A Roshni 2.Y Anjali 2 and H Abya 1 were on target for TS Paul MWC.

The hosts SSGG College enjoyed a walkover win over Manipur University before Biramangol College also earned a walkover win against Manipur University.

Later in the day, SSGG College defeated TS Paul MWC 23-4 as Th Anjubala struck 6 goals and Th Jenila and I Ronibala added 5 goals apiece.

K Sonia 4, L Umabati 2 and H Jenita 1 also found their names on the scoresheet for the winning side as H Abya and Y Anjali added 2 goals apiece.
