39th Inter District Badminton Championship : IWDBA vs IEDBA; IWDBA vs BDBA in junior and senior finals

Imphal, August 07 2022: Imphal West District Badminton Association (IWDBA) will lock horns with Imphal East District Badminton Association (IEDBA) for the junior mixed team title in the 39th Inter District Badminton Championship which kicked off today at Indoor Stadium, DM College Campus.

In the first semi-final match of the mixed team event of the two-day championship organised by Manipur Badminton Association, IWDBA eased past.

Kakching District Badminton Association (KDBA) 3-0 .

IWDBA opened the account with Kasprov Ahanthem beating E Richard of KDBA 21-16 21-15 in the boys singles event before Leonie Tayengjam eased to a 21-11, 21-8 win over Sagorika Naorem in the girls singles event and made it 2-0.Boys doubles pair of Chingangbam Ritesh and Konjengbam Nganba then overcame Konjengbam Dayananda and Mayanglambam Bikash 19-21, 21-12 21-16 to complete the 3-0 sweep.

Meanwhile in the other semi-final, IEDBA pulled off a 3-2 win over Bishnupur District Badminton Association (BDBA) to set up the final date with IWDBA.

The Imphal East team had a sluggish start as Sirzeet Moirangthem slumped to 17-21 21-12 16-21 loss to Hemam Malemnganba in the boys singles event before Konsam Gunjan beat Moirangthem Debika 21-13, 21-10 to draw level.

IE pair of Jomi Singam and Thiyam Matic Rohe faltered and went down 20-22, 7-21 to Bishnupur's Haobijam Rohenkumar and Khwairakpam Amaijit but girls pair of Konsam Gunjan and Moirangthem Priya came to the rescue again by beating Dolly Raj Kumari and Moirangthem Debika 21-7, 21-5 to restore parity.

Sirzeet Moirangthem and Moirangthem Priya carved out a 21-14, 21-13 win over Bishnupur's Alen Raj Kumar and Dolly RK to give Imphal East team a 3-2 win.

Senior competition
In the meantime, IWDBA set up the senior title clash with Bishnupur District Badminton Association (BDBA).

IWDBA who got a quarter final bye, beat IEDBA 3-1 to seal the final berth as BDBA who also got a quarter final bye outlasted Kakching District Body Building Association (KDBA) 3-0 to complete the final line up.

In the IWDBA vs IEDBA semi-final, Bidyasagar Salam beat IE's Jomi Singam 21-12, 21-16 to give IW the lead but IEDBA fought back with Ksh Maheshwari pulling off a 21-18, 21-8 win over Angita Naorem.

Khoirom Punshiba and Vikson Chirom then beat Jomi Singam and Sirzeet Moirangthem 21-18 21-16 to help IW retain the lead before Leimapokpam Diana and Vilinda Huidrom pair sealed the victory with 21-7 21-14 beating of IE pair of Maheshwari and Moirangthem Priya.

Meanwhile, in the other semi-final match, BDBA trounced KDBA 3-0 as Konthoujam Dingku opened the account with 21-13, 21-9 thrashing of Naorem Roshan of KDBA.

In the women's singles, Priya Konjengbam crushed Sagorika Naorem 21-8, 21-5 to give BDBA the 2-0 lead before Khwairakpam Manjit and Konthoujam Dingku pair cruised to a 21-4, 21-11 win over Leishangthem Dinesh and Naorem Sanjoy in the men's doubles event to complete the 3-0 rout.

Earlier in the day, IEDBA and KDBA entered semi-finals respectively defeating Thoubal District Badminton Association (TDBA) and MPSC today.

IEDBA lost the men's singles and men's doubles events but rode on women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles event wins to set up a semi-final date with IWDBA who got a bye.

Imphal East's Sirzeet Moirangthem lost 16-21, 12-21 to TDBA's Leishangthem Unilkumar in the men's singles event before Ksh Maheshwari crushed Aishwarika Moirangthem 21-3 21- to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Men's doubles pair of Jomi Singam and Thiyam Matic Rohe then lost 10-21 16-21 to Bidyachandra Khundrakpam and Saikhom Gung as the TDBA retain the lead but M Priya and Yumlembam Dhanabati pair eased to 21-5, 21 -6 win over Lembisana Ksh and Sapam Belory to set up recovery path for the Imphal East side.

The Mixed doubles pair of Sirzeet and Ksh Maheshwari outclassed L Unilkumar and S Belory 21-9, 21-9 to seal the 3-2 win.

Meanwhile in the other quarter final match, MPSC lost 1-3 to KBDA.

In the men's singles event, Naorem Roshan of KBDA won 23-21, 21-8 against MPSC's Laishram Momo to open the account before Sagorika Naorem beat Laithangbam Rebika 21-15, 21-15 to double the lead.

MPSC broke the winning run with men's doubles pair of Hawaibam Kishan and Raj Kumar Cinir beating Leishangthem Dinesh and Naorem Sanjoy 21-12, 21-16 but Kakching's women's doubles pair of Sagorika and Somibala Mayanglambam sealed the win with 21-13, 22-20 beating of Ksh Khelpati and Miranda Raj Kumari.
