Imphal, January 05 2023: Manipur cruised to second Ranji Trophy Plate Group win by thrashing Mizoram by an innings and 36 runs on Day 3 of their fourth tie at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground 'A', Motera in Gujarat.

Manipur had defeated Arunachal Pradesh in the previous match after a draw with Bihar.

Resuming their second innings at 79 for 3 in 33 overs, Mizoram were bundled out for a paltry 137 runs yet again despite Shreevats Goswami's half century (62 off 71 balls) knock.

Manipur's Bishworjit enjoyed a five-for (5 for 55 in 17 overs) claiming three more wickets today having removed two top order Mizoram batters yesterday and Kishan Singha too joined the wicket taking spree and returned with a commendable figures of 4 for 17 runs in his spell of 8.2 overs to set up the Mizoram collapse at 137 runs in 53.2 overs.

Kishan Singha who removed Hruaia (42) for his first wicket then spun web around the following orders and dismissed Thankhuma (7) and Jehu Anderson (4) both on lbw to leave Mizoram languishing at 136 for 8 after 51.2 overs.

Pacer Bishworjit then completed his five wicket haul by removing Naveen on 9-ball duck before Kishan Singha undone Avinash Yadav for 8 to complete his four wicket haul.

The innings also saw Rex and Jotin keeping Mizoram batters in check with their clinical and economical bowlings.

Both managed 5 maidens each in their spells of 15 and 13 overs respectively.

Notably, Mizoram had posted 104 runs for all wickets down in 35.4 overs thanks to Shreevats Goswami (58) in the first innings which saw Jotin Pheiroijam (4/35) and Bishworjit (3/21) ripping through their batters .

Taruwar Kohli had picked up four wickets in Manipur's first innings as Dika Ralte (2/82) and Naveen (2/52) managed two wickets apiece.

With the win, Manipur are assured of a semi-final berth (Plate Group: top four) with a match left to play against provisional Group leaders Meghalaya (at Polo Ground, Shillong from January 10) who have won three of three matches so far.

Jotin Pheiroijam, who produced an eye-catching all round first innings performance was adjudged man of the match.
