Hosts Manipur retain National Junior Thang-Ta Championship title

Imphal, December 02 2022: Hosts Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur successfully defended their title in the 28th National Junior Thang-Ta Championship organised at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium under the auspices of Thang-Ta Federation of India.

Manipur team amassed 177.7 points on the back of 34 medals : 25 gold, 8 silver and 1 bronze, to seal the top honour while Jammu and Kashmir got 57.7 points from 5 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals to finish team runners up and Assam got 46.5 points from 5 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals to claim second runners up title.

State junior boys scooped 12 gold medals in Phunaba Ama and Phunaba Anishuba events of the championship as junior girls bagged 6 gold, 8 silver and 1 bronze medals.

Phunaba Ama
Ng Bholen of Manipur grabbed the -44 kg category gold medal in the junior boys Phunaba Ama event today beating Abhibhorat Konwar of Assam in the final.

L Ashamani Meitei (-48 kg), Kh Panan Meitei (-52 kg), Th Gunabanta (-56 kg), Ph Bishoijit (-65 kg), Birajit Ngashepam (-80 kg) also earned Manipur gold medals.

In the girls competition, D Dhanapati Chanu bagged the -40 kg category gold medal beating Arti of Haryana while M Roniya sealed the -44 kg category gold by getting better of Abida Ashraf of Jammu and Kashmir in the final.

A Johnika Devi clinched the -60 kg category gold with a win over V Mary Priya Darshini in the final as S Priya (-48 kg), Ng Rishita (-70 kg) and Ng Ena (+75 kg) bagged silver medals and H Priya (-75 kg) won bronze medal.

Phunaba Anishuba
Rohit Maisnam of Manipur bagged the gold medal in the Phunaba Anishuba -44 kg category by beating Maharashtra's Nandkumar Mali in the final as Jammu and Kashmir's Zabair Hussain finished second.

Abomcha (-48 kg), M Chinglemba (-52 kg), K Loveson (-56 kg), N Bikash (-70 kg) and S Sunibash (-80 kg) also won gold medals in their respective weight categories before L Thouna clinched the +80 kg category gold medal by beating Gaurav Bundela of Delhi in the final.

In Phunaba Anishuba competition for junior girls, K Thaja Chanu (-52 kg), H Dolly Devi (-56 kg) and N Yaisana Chanu (+75 kg) bagged gold medals as Likla Chanu Moirangthem (-40 kg), A Celina (-44 kg), P Linthoingambi (-48 kg), S Priyangka Chanu and L Sanamacha (-75 kg) settled for silver medals.

Thang-Haiba, Thanglon and Khonglon-Khutlon
K Bishal and S Malemnganbi won gold medals in Thang-Haiba events respectively.

Lakshay Lather of Haryana, Borish Laipubam of Manipur and Nikhil Sarkar of Assam fetched gold, silver and bronze medals in the Thanglon competition for boys while S Rojika of Manipur and Diksha of Delhi sealed gold and silver medals in the girls competition.

In Khonglon-Khutlon competition, S Lamjingba won gold medal as Chandini Sunar of Manipur and Monali Gogoi of Assam won the gold and silver medals in the girls competition.

388 athletes and officials representing 21 State units were part of the National championship.
