Liangchi United, Makui defeated Guilong Youth Club 1-0 in the men's football final to bag the top prize of Rs 25,000 in the 20th Biennial Liangmai Sports Meet which concluded at Thonglang Akutpa village of Senapati district yesterday.
Runners-up side had to be content with the Rs 15,000 award.
In the final match of the women's football competition Liangchi United emerged as the champions to claim the Rs 5000 award.
Oklong Youth Club clinched the men's volleyball title carrying top prize of Rs 10,000 while the women's competition was won by Konsaram Youth Club along with the Rs 3000 prize.
The closing ceremony of the sports organised by Liangmai Sports Association (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) was held with Tamenglong AC MLA Awangbou Newmai and AMUCO advisor Dr Dhanabir Laishram as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
In all 31 teams and cultural troupes from Zeliangrong villages, including two from Nagaland participated in the sports meet.
The closing day also marked the appointment of Dara Newmai as president of a nine member office bearers of the Liangmai Sports Association (AM&N) for the 2008-12 term besides decision to host the next sports meet at tening of Nagaland in 2010.The organisers also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to MLAs Awangbou Newmai, K Raina and Thangminlen Kipgen and all concerned for their contribution towards successful host of the sports meet.
