Imphal, November 20 2012:
Olympic Bronze medallist Manipuri boxer MC Mary Kom today honoured her coaches in a formal function held at Hotel Classic, Imphal.
Dronacharya Awardee coach L Ibomcha; Secretary of Manipur Amateur Boxing Association, Khoibi Salam; coach M Narajit and coach L Kishan were honoured with shawls and 'cash present' of Rs 1 lakh each by Mary Kom.
She also extended a cash incentive of Rs 65,000 to body builder Kh Pradipkumar and Rs 50,000 to Manipur Amateur Boxing Association.
Mary Kom also encouraged her boxing students who helped her in competing in the London Olympics with gifts.
Later, coach L Ibomcha donated the amount presented to him by Mary Kom, to the Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation.
Speaking at the occasion, Mary Kom said that she never forget those who help her throughout her boxing career.
It was not her skills that fetched her the Olympic medal but the guidance of her coaches, support of the government as well as public, Manipur Olympic Association, SAI, Manipur Amateur Boxing Association helped her in clinching the medal.
She further said that she will continue her struggle to fetch another Olympic medal in Rio.
She also said that she will help body builder Kh Pradipkumar in acquiring products of Herbalife for her lifetime if he needs them.
Parliamentary Secretary of Youth Affairs & Sports and Tourism, M Prithviraj and President of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) Bijoy Koijam graced the function as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Director, Youth Affairs and Sports, H Deleep and MLA Jamhenglung Panmei also attended the function as Guests of Honour.
Chief Guest, Prithviraj compared Mary Kom with a unique star of North East and assured possible helps for her academy from the government.
