AMUCO Polo Trophy from Feb 25

A state-level polo tournament sponsored by AMUCO under the aegis of Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association would be held from February 25 to March 12 at Mapal Kangjeibung.
Speaking to reporters at its office located at Kwakeithel AMUCO President KT Rahman informed that the tournament christened AMUCO Trophy Polo Tournament is organised in an attempt to preserve the game.
Asserting that polo is an indigenous game of Manipur which gains popularity all over the world, Rahman said that the tournament would be conducted on February 25 of every year.
Maintaining that it is very saddening for the people that the population of quality horses of Manipur dwindles, he added that the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department should pay necessary attention to it.
Further, Rehman informed that 16 teams of the State would participate in the polo tournament.
Cash prize would also be given to the 1st and 2nd Best Pony winner.
The cash award for the winning team and the runner-up team may be around Rs 25, 000 and 20,000. He said that blowing of traditional trumpet (moibung), displaying indigenous game like Mukna and other cultural items would mark the inaugural ceremony of the tournament.
Rahman also sought cooperation in cash and kind from all quarters for the success of the tournament.
