Imphal, March 19, 2010:
In yet another case of wildfire, at least 10 wooden houses have been reduced to cinders at Lower Nungou in Ukhrul district this afternoon.
The raging fire reportedly broke out from the surrounding hills and spread to the village.
Owing to sub-standard nature of the road leading to the village, only a mini fire tender could access the village and fight the raging fire, information received from Imphal Fire Service said.
On the other hand, a wildfire that broke out at Chingmeirong Cheiraoching on the side facing IOC oil depot at about 7.30 pm today created a panicky situation in the surrounding area.
However, the wildfire was put under control by fire tenders before it could spread to human settlements.
